Waipu Golf Club

The Waipu Golf Club is one of those golf courses that you may often drive by on State Highway 1, but this is one worth stopping at.  The course sits beautifully on sand dunes above Uretiti Beach in Northland, offering a coastal links style layout, with sweeping views across Bream Bay, the Whangarei Heads, and the Pacific Ocean.

The course blends natural coastal beauty, improved course conditions, design variety, and warm hospitality.  Thanks to a new fairway irrigation upgrade, this ensures the turf is healthy, lush, and more enjoyable to play off.  The Waipu greens are well known for their quality, being well-maintained and rolling true.  But they can be challenging as many of them have a bit of undulation through them and depending on conditions quite fast.    

The course design offers plenty of variety with holes that play downhill towards the ocean or back up the dunes.  You will be faced with blind tee shots, dogleg fairways and undulating greens. The Par 3’s are challenging and require a solid tee shot.  And don’t forget the local sea breeze you will have to contend with!  

The 18^th hole is quite a long challenging uphill par4 with a large, elevated green.  The green has two distinct levels and sits halfway up a steep bank. The green is guarded by one pot bunker short left and two bunkers to the right.  Overlooked by the Clubhouse balcony - it’s a memorable, finishing hole with a great view for spectators.

The layout at Waipu caters to all levels: multiple tees for men and women help keep the challenge fair for less experienced golfers while still rewarding precision for more accomplished players

Off the course, the clubhouse and café are very popular and rated one of the best in the country!  Relaxing on the veranda or in the clubhouse, you will find a great spot to soak up the vista, while enjoying a drink and a bite. Overall, you will have a great time playing this golf course.
