Muriwai Golf Club

Only a 45-minute drive from downtown Auckland, the Muriwai Golf Club is a wonderful links experience. This is a golf course that any golfer who loves coastal scenery, challenging conditions and a strong dose of nature will want to play.  It is a favourite with the golf professionals that regularly play events there and the course regularly hosts top amateur events.

The course is shaped out of the dunes on Auckland’s rugged west coast, with spectacular views of the Tasman Sea, black sand beaches, and native bush.  The sound of crashing waves and the feel of thesea breeze gives you the full links experience.

The course blends wide, wind-exposed fairways with tighter, more sheltered holes lined by pines, ti-tree, and dunes. It features numerous risk-reward holes, especially par-3’s and par-4’s where wind direction, pin placement, and accurate approach shots matter.

The variety in hole design means you will need strategy: thinking carefully about wind, shot-selection, angles, and club choices.  The greens are well-contoured so good shots are rewarded and poor ones are rejected. Overall, the greens have subtle slopes and roll very well.  The par 72, 6,250m championship course requires the golfer to have more than a power game.  With multiple tee positions, and generally, breezy but playable conditions, make it accessible for mid-range and higher handicaps too.

The finishing three holes provide an exciting finish.  The 16th is a short but challenging par-4, where precision is vital for your drive and second shot.  The short par-3, 17th Hole can play dramatically harder than the short distance says it is!  Then the 18th hole is an extremely testing long par-4 where the right line with your driver can make the hole so much easier.  The green is elevated, with strong bunkering and lots of undulation. Making par here is a great way to finish your round!

The scenic drive out to Muriwai is also worth the effort. Overall, the course is a lot of fun to play and great views and warm hospitality awaits you in the clubhouse after your game.
